Gakuran Character Customization Guide
When you first create a character in Gakuran, several stats are generated automatically: your gender, name, hair, face, ethnicity, and height. Some of these are purely cosmetic, others quietly affect combat. Everything below is sourced directly from the official Trello board's Stats section.
The full "Personal Data" reroll screen — every rerollable stat has its own reroll button.
Name
Your first name is chosen and can be rerolled freely — it must be 3 to 12 characters. Last names are preset and pulled from a pool tied to your rolled ethnicity: 4,428 unique last names exist in total, split unevenly by ethnicity — European (838), Latino (795), Middle Eastern (769), Indian (755), African (712), and Japanese (559).
Gender
You choose Male or Female at character creation. Gender determines which hair and face ID pools you draw from, and factors into your ethnicity-based height range. Female character models are also roughly 10% slimmer than male models.
Age, Birthday & Grade
Your character is randomly assigned to First, Second, or Third Year. This is currently cosmetic — it doesn't change gameplay yet, though the developers have noted it could later. It does, however, set your nameplate outline color (see below).
Hair
Hairstyle is rolled from a pool specific to your ethnicity and gender — every style in that pool has an equal chance. You can keep the roll or change it during customization.
Hair color works differently: each ethnicity has its own table of natural colors, and the game picks from that table 95% of the time. The other 5% of rolls get a dyed color generated outside the natural table entirely — examples the developers list include red, pink, purple, green, white, and teal. For the full breakdown of natural-vs-dyed odds and which colors are realistic per ethnicity, see the dedicated Hair Color Guide.
The second character page — hair, hair color (as RGB), face, and each accessory slot all have their own ID and reroll button.
Face
Face ID is rolled from your gender's standard pool — ethnicity has no effect on which faces you can get. There's also a flat 1% chance of receiving a rare "mogger" face instead of a standard one, regardless of ethnicity or gender — the second-rarest face tier in the game, behind only the unrevealed "???" faces. The official Trello board confirms at least three named eye-color variants within that 1% mogger pool — Dark Green, Light Blue, and a red/purple ripple-pattern variant labeled “Rinnegan” — though the developers haven't published how the pool splits between them, so treat any specific percentage split you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until the Trello board says otherwise.
Height by Ethnicity
Height isn't fully random — it's generated around an average tied to your ethnicity and gender, with rolls close to that average being far more common than extreme ones. The exact averages, per the Trello board:
Male averages (tallest to shortest): European 178cm (5'10"), African 175cm (5'9"), Middle Eastern 173cm (5'8"), Japanese 171cm (5'7"), Latinx 170cm (5'7"), Indian 167cm (5'6").
Female averages (tallest to shortest): European 165cm (5'5"), African 162cm (5'4"), Middle Eastern 160cm (5'3"), Japanese 159cm (5'3"), Latinx 158cm (5'2"), Indian 155cm (5'1").
Height in turn affects your combat stats — see the full Ethnicity Guide for how tall vs. short builds play out in a fight.
Nameplate Colors
Your nameplate displays your last name in Japanese — kanji for known surnames, katakana transliteration otherwise. The outline color tells you what grade a player is in: blue for First Year, purple for Second Year, and yellow for Third Year.
Personality
Personality is confirmed as one of the rerollable character stats, but the developers haven't published details on what it affects yet. This page will be updated once more information is available.
