Gakuran Style Awakening & Pity System
The October 3, 2026 update (v10.00), billed by the developers as "The Holy Grail Update", is the biggest patch Gakuran has shipped. Alongside five new fighting styles, it added two systems that change how you chase and grow a style: Style Awakening and a pity system for the rarest rolls. This page covers both, plus the rollable finishers and daily rewards that came in the same update.
What Is Style Awakening?
Awakening is a progression system for individual fighting styles. An awakenable style can be awakened through three stages. Only the first stage has been revealed so far; the other two are hidden. You track progress through a new Mastery Stage entry in your Stats menu and a dedicated Awakening page.
Which Styles Can Be Awakened?
Eight styles can be awakened as of October 2026:
| Style | Rarity |
|---|---|
| Jin | ??? (secret) |
| Hakari | Legendary |
| Wrestling | Legendary |
| Boxing | Epic |
| Lethwei | Epic |
| Taijutsu | Uncommon |
| Muay Thai | Uncommon |
| Karate | Uncommon |
The other 16 styles, including Ali, Kure, Capoeira, Striker and Basic, can't be awakened yet. The developers have said more styles will get awakenings soon.
Awakening Requirements
Requirements differ by style and are shown on the in-game Awakening page. The only one confirmed in patch notes so far is Karate: QOL #4 (October 10) lowered its awakening requirement from 10 to 5 taiman wins. A taiman is a one-on-one fight; since the Holy Grail update, NPCs on the street can also call you out for one. We'll add other styles' requirements here once they're published.
The Pity System
The Holy Grail update added pity to Gakuran's rarest rolls. Before it, landing a ??? style at the 0.05% combined rate was pure luck. Now:
- You choose which item you're chasing (for example, a specific ??? style).
- When you hit the pity threshold, you get a 50/50 chance at the item you chose.
- If you lose the 50/50, your next pity is guaranteed to be the item you chose.
| What you're rolling for | Pity threshold |
|---|---|
| ??? fighting style | 1,700 rolls |
| ??? face | 850 rolls |
| ??? uniform | 850 rolls |
| Unique skateboard deck | 15 rolls |
In the worst case, that means 3,400 style rolls to guarantee the exact ??? style you want. That's a lot of rerolls, so free sources (codes, daily rewards, club rankings and update rerolls) add up.
Rollable Finishers
The same update made execution animations (the move you do with B on a downed opponent; see controls) a rollable stat. You can preview them in Stats.
| Finisher | Rarity | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| The Basher | Common | 35% |
| Straight Right | Common | 35% |
| Headbutt | Uncommon | 25% |
| Stomp | Epic | 5% |
Daily Rewards Calendar
A Daily Rewards calendar in the menu pays rerolls and yen for every day you log in. Days 7, 14 and 21 give lucky bag spins, and completing a Perfect Month gives a bag that can roll a random ??? item. New clubs (Biology, Calligraphy, Astronomy and Gardening) also pay rerolls and yen to each club's weekly top 3.
Other Holy Grail Update Highlights
- Vaulting and ledge climbing
- Seasons that follow the in-game calendar, including winter snow and snowball fights
- NPC street events: gang turf, crew brawls, rival school raids, bosozoku rallies and horde events
- Soccer: full matches in a new stadium with NPC players and a goalkeeper mode
- Taxis you can hail on the street or call from your phone, and fireworks at the Gakumart
